apologies in advance

From what I’ve read, Ernest Shackleton was impossibly tough. He led his failed expedition through unbelievable exertion and privation, managed to sail under unimaginably difficult conditions to get help for his stranded crew who were subsisting on seal meat cooked over penguin skin fires. Pioneering American aviator Richard Byrd claimed in 1926 to be the first person to fly over our planet’s northern axis but probably he was fudging his numbers: The distance he claimed exceeded his aircraft’s fuel capacity and his navigation log had been erased and written over. It’s pretty clear that these two guys were polar opposites.
